Capt. James Knox

Florida native, James P. Knox, is both an Artist and charter boat Captain. James combines his passion for fishing with his love for making great art by creating cast glass objects, which are often but not exclusively marine related. James sculptures vary in form, from marine objects to his very unique, large quasi-mechanical pieces in cast glass.

James uses the glass working process known as Glass Casting to create his works of art. It is a process where the artist sculpts his forms from clay and then makes a high temperature mold for the glass to be melted into at over 1500 degrees. These molds are only used once as they become destroyed during the firing process, therefore each sculpture is hand-carved and completely unique.
After earning a Master in Fine Arts in 2005, James returned to his hometown and opened his studio in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach. In his studio he creates work from many types of materials and glass is his favorite. In his new series of glass art, James creates Circle Hooks and one of the iconic images of South Florida, the Atlantic Sailfish. These two images are synonymous with South Florida Sportfishing and both are forever appreciated in these Cast Glass Sculptures, created in his West Palm Beach studio.
